Why choose organic and biodynamic wine?

Organic produce has rocketed in popularity over recent years, and organic wine is a blossoming area that many people have yet to discover; so why not be one of the first to combine premium drinking with ethical thinking?

Organic wine

The organic wine grower focuses on growing a healthy vine which is able to withstand pests and to feed itself, naturally. This means developing a healthy soil and a balanced ecosystem within the vineyard. And it also means a lot of hard work.

That’s why you won’t see mass-produced organic wine and Champagne on this website – the green cellar only champions small growers who aspire to absolute quality in every bottle.

Biodynamic agriculture

Biodynamics is a type of organic farming which employs a complex system of herbal sprays and composting techniques (‘preparations’) that shelter the delicate vine from external harm.

A vineyard is seen as a ‘living’ system that functions through 'formative' forces and movements of the spheres. It’s based on a holistic and spiritual understanding of nature pioneered by Rudolf Steiner.

At its core is the idea of the farm as a self-contained, evolving organism, reliant on home produced compost manures and animal feeds. It is the oldest consciously organic approach to farming and gardening and is one of the most sustainable.

So our selected producers are, by nature, as fanatical about organic wine as we are, which can only mean one thing: supreme quality combined with responsible practices.
